The Methodist Church of Ghana, which oversees Wesley Girls’ High School, says it has not yet been formally served with documents concerning a Supreme Court case challenging the school’s treatment of Muslim students. According to the Church, it only became aware of the lawsuit after seeing reports in the media and has begun efforts to secure the official records needed to prepare its legal response.

The case, initiated in December 2024 by lawyer Shafic Osman, invokes the Supreme Court’s original jurisdiction to contest alleged limitations placed on Muslim students at the Cape Coast school. The suit argues that bans on the hijab, restrictions on fasting during Ramadan, and other claimed limitations infringe on constitutional protections for freedom of religion.

When the matter was called on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, a seven-member panel presided over by Justice Gabriel Pwamang directed the school’s Board of Governors to respond to the allegations within two weeks. The Methodist Church, as proprietor, says it is now taking steps to access all relevant case details so it can safeguard its interests once officially notified.
