A Nigerian woman is in distress after mistakenly sending ₦800,000 to the wrong bank account—only to find out that the recipient has reportedly refused to give it back and is already spending the money.
The young woman, who goes by the handle @ii_kach on X (formerly Twitter), shared her frustration online in a desperate plea for help.
According to her, the incident occurred after she entered incorrect account details while making a transfer from her Union Bank account, mistakenly sending the large sum to a GTBank customer.
Despite swiftly visiting both banks to report the issue, she claims GTBank informed her that the account in question couldn’t be frozen.
The situation escalated when she revealed that the recipient had already been contacted by the bank but showed no intention of returning the funds—and instead started using the money.
Her emotional posts have since drawn massive attention, with many users expressing outrage over the lack of effective recourse for such cases.
Calls for tighter regulatory frameworks and rapid bank interventions have intensified, as many sympathized with her loss and criticized the loopholes in current banking procedures.
The incident highlights the vulnerability of digital transactions and has reignited conversations about the need for more consumer protections within Nigeria’s banking sector.
