In a deeply emotional Facebook post made on Saturday, May 3, 2025, a Kenyan woman, Akinyi Hellen, opened up about a painful betrayal at the hands of her younger sister—a sibling she claims she raised like her own child.
Hellen shared that after their parents separated during her teenage years, she assumed the role of caretaker. With a 13-year age gap between them, she says she provided for her sister, took her in, and personally ensured she completed her education.
But despite her sacrifices, Hellen alleges that her sister crossed an unthinkable line—having an affair with her romantic partner.
“I forgave her,” Hellen wrote, “but that wasn’t the end.
Instead of mending our bond, she went behind my back and told lies that turned our mutual friends against me.”
According to Hellen, her sister’s jealousy only intensified.
She described her sibling as two-faced—sweet and innocent in public, but secretly malicious, allegedly spreading damaging rumors that ruined Hellen’s reputation.
Things escalated when Hellen discovered that her sister had been secretly communicating with the father of her child, repeatedly asking him for money.
Initially, she turned a blind eye, but said she was forced to confront the behavior when it became habitual.
“I even took her on a vacation to Mombasa,” she revealed, “but had to leave her there when her resentment became too obvious.”
Hellen’s candid post ends with a sense of emotional exhaustion.
She questions whether she should ever have children, fearing the cycle of family betrayal could repeat itself.
“I have no family to share this with,” she wrote. “I’m alone.”
