Gospel musician Yaw Sarpong has been bedridden for over a year following a stroke. His wife, Adwoa, revealed on the radio show Oyerepa Afutuo that her husband was admitted to Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital and was later taken to a pastor at Sokoban Ampayoo for spiritual intervention.
Adwoa claimed that she was denied access to her husband and that his siblings have taken over his care. She also alleged that Tiwaa, Yaw Sarpong’s female vocalist, has taken advantage of the situation and is now in a romantic relationship with her husband.
The stroke has left Yaw Sarpong unable to care for himself, and his family’s actions have caused tension and controversy in the gospel music community.
Renowned gospel musician Yaw Sarpong is a prolific songwriter, composer, and singer who has received numerous awards for his contributions to the industry. He is also the leader of the indigenous Ghanaian gospel music group, Asomafo Band, which comprises members from Sierra Leone, Liberia, and beyond. The name “Asomafo” translates to “Messengers,” reflecting Yaw Sarpong’s belief that he and his team are mere vessels for spreading God’s word through music. In 2017, Yaw Sarpong celebrated his 40-year milestone in the gospel music industry with a grand concert, Praiz Reloaded, at the Accra International Conference Centre.
