10-Year-Old Dies After Gunfire Celebration Goes Wrong

A wedding ceremony in Katsina State ended in heartbreak when a 10-year-old boy lost his life after being struck by a stray bullet. The tragedy unfolded in Unguwar Liman, Magama Jibia, as guests gathered for the wedding rites of a member of the Nigerian Hunter Group.

Around 2:50 p.m. on Friday, 45-year-old Adamu Idris reportedly fired a shot into the air using a locally fabricated firearm in a moment of celebration. The bullet, however, veered fatally off course and hit young Malam Yusuf in the stomach. A 25-year-old woman, Shamsiyya Salisu, was also injured, with the bullet grazing her waist.

The victims were rushed to the General Hospital in Jibia. Sadly, Yusuf was pronounced dead upon arrival, while Salisu is currently receiving medical care.
