13 Arrested for Invading Boi Tano and Jema Asemkrom Forest Reserves

Thirteen suspected illegal miners have been nabbed for allegedly invading two forest reserves in the Western North Region.

In a coordinated operation by the Enchi District of the Forestry Commission, the suspects were actively operating in the Boi Tano and Jema Asemkrom forest reserves.

They were arrested on Tuesday, January 20, 2026.

The night operation also saw the burning of a number of equipment and makeshift structures erected by the miners inside the reserve, the Deputy CEO of the Forestry Commission reported.

“The Boin Tano and Jema Asemkrom forest reserves are part of green spaces that have come under attack by illegal miners,” he noted.

The suspects have since been handed over to the Enchi police command for prosecution.
