Accra will host a special Islamic remembrance ceremony for the late former Vice President Alhaji Aliu Mahama on Sunday, November 16, 2025. The annual event, observed for the 13th consecutive year, is held in memory of the distinguished public servant and seeks blessings and mercy from Allah for his soul.
The gathering will take place at the late Vice President’s home on Switchback Road in Cantonment, bringing together family, political figures, religious leaders, and members of the public who wish to honor his legacy. The National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, is expected to lead the prayers, continuing the tradition of invoking divine mercy for departed souls, as recommended in Islamic teachings.
Alhaji Aliu Mahama held the office of Vice President for two terms, serving from January 7, 2001, to January 7, 2009, under President John Agyekum Kufuor. His contributions to the nation remain celebrated, and this year’s remembrance promises a solemn occasion reflecting on his life, faith, and service to Ghana.
