Residents of Awerempe, a suburb of Berekum in the Bono Region, were thrown into shock after a landlord allegedly stabbed his tenant to death during a violent confrontation on Friday morning, November 7, 2025.
According to police investigations, the tragic event unfolded around 10:30 a.m. when Yaw Owusu, also known as Angolo, accused his 25-year-old tenant, Bright Abotsi, of stealing two of his mobile phones. What started as a verbal exchange quickly spiraled into a deadly altercation.
In a burst of anger, the 43-year-old landlord reportedly grabbed a knife and plunged it into the chest of the young man. Neighbors who witnessed the horrifying scene rushed the victim to the Holy Family Hospital in Berekum, but doctors pronounced him dead shortly after arrival.
Yaw Owusu was later arrested by officers from the Bono Regional Police Command and is currently assisting with investigations while in custody.
The body of the deceased has been deposited at the hospital morgue for autopsy as authorities continue to piece together details of the shocking incident that has left the quiet community in mourning.
