A total of 257 births and three deaths were recorded during the festive season.
Our reporters visited some health facilities from December 24, 2025, to January 2, 2026.
Also, in the spirit of the reason for the season, the mobile telecommunications company, MTN, visited some hospitals to make presentations to the mothers and babies.
Korle Bu
In Accra, Augustina Tawiah reports that the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital welcomed 46 new babies in the last week of December 2025 and the first week of January 2026.
Data collected by the department indicated that 14 babies were born on Christmas Day, December 25, 2025, followed by 19 more on New Year’s Eve, December 31, 2025. Information made available by the Public Relations unit of the hospital revealed the streak continued with 13 more babies arriving on Thursday, January 1, 2026.
The unit said the hospital’s team of dedicated healthcare professionals worked tirelessly to ensure the safe delivery of these newborns, bringing joy to families and adding to the hospital’s tally of successful births.
Unfortunately, it said there were three deaths, one on each day, due to complications. “Our condolences go out to families who lost their precious little ones,” it said.
Legon
At the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC), the Head, Client Services and Public Relations, Barbara Owusu-Hemeng, said 82 births were recorded in December 2025 at the Obstetrics Unit of the hospital with no deaths.
Checks from our reporter, Delali Sika, indicated that at the Ga East Municipal Hospital, from December 24, 2025, the period began with nine children, followed by a quieter day on December 25, 2025, with three children.
The numbers rose again on December 26, 2025, to eight, then settled at three children each on December 27 and 28, 2025. Activity increased on December 29, 2025, with eight children, reaching the highest point on December 30, 2025, with 14 children, before easing to six children on December 31, 2025, to close the year.
As January 2026 began, January 1, 2026, recorded seven children, and the period concluded on January 2, 2026, with two children. That brought the total number of children recorded across these days to 63.
In addition, Legon Hospital reported a total of 33 deliveries for the month of December 2025.
Ga North, Police Hospital, LEKMA
Juliet Akyaa Safo reports that there were four births at the Ga North Municipal Hospital on December 25, 2025: three females and one male.
On Boxing Day, the hospital welcomed only one baby girl, but on New Year’s Day, three boys and one girl were born.
At the St John’s Hospital and Fertility Centre, all births on December 25, 26, 2025 and January 1, 2026, were boys.
One was born on December 25, 2025, two on December 26, 2025 and one on January 1, 2026.
From the Police Hospital, Jemima Okang reports that on December 24, 2025, six babies, two females and four males, were born.
On December 25, 2025, two babies were delivered, both girls.
However, the trend shifted on December 26, 2025, when all three babies born were boys.
The tables turned again in favour of girls on December 31, 2025, with two female babies recorded.
On January 1, 2026, only one boy was born.
At the LEKMA Hospital, Beatrice Laryea reports that nine babies were born on New Year’s Day.
CCTH
In a related development, Shirley Asiedu Addo reports that the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital (CCTH) received 20 babies on Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve.
The hospital received 12 babies, including seven males and five females, on Christmas Day.
On New Year’s Day, the facility welcomed five male babies and three females.
The Public Relations Officer of the hospital, Fred Nyankah, said the hospital was always excited to receive newborns on such memorable days, saying they were doing well.
“The board and management of CCTH would like to take this opportunity to say a very big ayekoo to the entire staff of the hospital.
“It is very clear that we are in challenging times, but you go the extra mile to get great results from whatever is available. We say thank you also to all our stakeholders,” he stated.
In the spirit of the season, MTN Ghana extended love and support to 25 babies born in the Christmas season through the donation of hampers to the newborns.
The gesture, which formed part of MTN Ghana’s annual Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities, brought smiles to new mothers and healthcare workers alike.
Each hamper contained essential baby care items, including diapers, baby powder, pomade, bathing soap, towels and other necessities for newborns.
Ho Teaching Hospital
Alberto Mario Noretti reports from HO that two baby boys were born at the Ho Teaching Hospital (HTH) on Christmas Day.
Also, seven babies were born at the facility on New Year’s Day and they were made up of five boys and two girls.
The manager of the HTH maternity ward, Victoria Kwame, told the Daily Graphic that the festive babies were all healthy, saying the ward did not record any newborn deaths.
KATH
Gilbert Mawuli Agbey reports from Kumasi that the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) recorded a total of 33 new babies during the festive season. A total of 10 babies each were delivered at the hospital on December 25 and December 26, while 13 others were delivered on January 1, 2026.
Out of a total of 33 deliveries, nine of the babies were delivered through normal delivery, while the remaining were delivered through Caesarean section.
Similarly, out of the babies delivered, 20 were males while 14 were females. More significantly, there was a twin caesarean delivery among the deliveries on December 26, 2025.
Sunyani
Biiya Mukusah Ali reports from Sunyani, the Bono Regional capital, that the Sunyani Teaching Hospital (STH) welcomed Christmas with the birth of six babies on Christmas Eve, ushering in joy for families and health workers.
The special babies are made up of five females and one male.
The Director in charge of Nursing and Midwifery at the STH, Eunice Oppong-Amoah, described the births as a heartwarming moment for the hospital during the festive season.
The births, Mrs Oppong-Amoah said, brought renewed hope and cheers to the maternity ward.
TTH
From Tamale, Abukari Alhassan Baba reports that the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH) recorded a total of 34 newborn babies during the 2025 festive season.
On Christmas Day, the hospital recorded 16 successful normal deliveries. In addition, three pregnant women safely underwent Caesarean section (CS) procedures, while the Obstetrics Theatre recorded five more deliveries, bringing the total number of births on the day to 24.
Also, 10 babies were delivered on New Year’s Day.
The In-Charge of the Labour Ward, Adam Fauzia, said no complication was recorded during the deliveries.
Ms Adam disclosed that mothers who delivered on Christmas Day were presented with hampers donated by MTN Ghana, which brought joy to their faces.
The In-Charge of the Obstetrics Theatre, Josephine Wajah, reaffirmed the hospital’s commitment to providing quality maternal and neonatal health care to residents of the northern region and beyond.
