A 35-year-old tailor, Moses Vincent, has been arrested and charged with stealing from the Star of the Sea Catholic Church on two separate occasions.
Vincent was caught on CCTV footage both times, with the most recent incident occurring in May 2024, where he stole an envelope containing GH₵600 from the church altar.
Despite admitting to the stealing charge, Vincent denied other charges, including unlawful entry and being on premises for unlawful purposes.
The court convicted him of stealing and remanded him till June 26, 2024. In a surprising turn of events, a good Samaritan paid the stolen amount, and the court cautioned Vincent and ordered him to sign a bond to be of good behavior for the next 12 months.
The case has raised concerns about security in places of worship and the need for vigilance to prevent criminal activity. The church’s security team, led by Thomas Wahab, played a crucial role in apprehending Vincent and bringing him to justice. The incident serves as a reminder that crime can occur anywhere and that community members must work together to prevent and address criminal behavior.
