Four men allegedly linked to an armed robbery syndicate in the Ashanti Region have been arrested following an intelligence-led operation by the Regional Police Command.
The suspects were detained on January 21, 2026, in a joint operation involving the Ashanti Regional Police and the National Police Headquarters.
Their arrests are connected to a robbery at Kunsum on December 7, 2025, during which victims returning from a mining site were attacked and relieved of mobile phones, gold concentrate, and a firearm.
Those apprehended have been identified as Yaya Seidu, 34; Atta Israel, also known as Stone or Abodie, 32; Victor Gyan, 26; and Stanley Wiafe Akenten, alias Figo, 30.
Police confirmed that two other suspected members of the syndicate remain at large, with investigations ongoing to locate them.
A search of Yaya Seidu’s room yielded several items believed to have been stolen, including two pump-action guns, a short gun, 22 BB cartridges, three cutlasses, five mobile phones—one of which belonged to a robbery victim—and GHS5,400. One of the firearms recovered was verified as belonging to a complainant.
DCOP Arthur Osei Akoto, Ashanti Regional Police Commander, stated that the suspects have confessed to the robbery and are cooperating with authorities to assist ongoing investigations.
