The Ghanaian government is set to expand its teaching workforce with the recruitment of 6,100 additional educators, a move aimed at addressing persistent staffing shortages in schools across the country. The approval came from the Cabinet, the Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, confirmed on November 19, 2025, in Accra.
The announcement comes amid ongoing demonstrations by a section of 2023 teacher trainees seeking postings and validation of their salaries. The Minister clarified that these trainees are included in the newly approved recruitment batch, ensuring they are fully accounted for in the education service.
Expressing surprise at the continued protests, Mr. Iddrisu encouraged the teachers to cooperate with the ministry by completing administrative procedures, such as verification and auditing, to enable their formal integration and payment.
The Minister emphasized that education remains the country’s largest employer and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to addressing workforce gaps while ensuring a smooth transition for all newly recruited teachers. Authorities continue to urge striking teachers to return to the designated offices to complete the necessary processes.
