7 injured in Ho mosque shooting during Friday Jumu’ah prayers

Violence disrupted prayers at the Ho Central Mosque

At least seven Muslims sustained varying degrees of injuries and are currently receiving treatment at different hospitals in Ho, the Volta Regional capital, following a shooting that disrupted Jummah prayers on Friday, December 26, 2025.

According to multiple reports online, the incident occurred around 9:00 a.m. when the newly installed Chief Imam arrived at the Ho Central Mosque to lead the day’s prayers.

“At least seven people have been injured after five masked men opened fire at the Ho Central Mosque in the Volta Region. The incident occurred as worshippers were preparing for Friday Jumu’ah prayers, according to eyewitnesses. Victims sustained gunshot injuries and were rushed to nearby health facilities for treatment,” a post shared on X by user Elorm Hood on December 26, 2025, stated.

Police shoot dead armed suspect in gunfire exchange

Eyewitnesses said the violence erupted as supporters of Alhaji Alfa Anas clashed with armed men who were allegedly providing security for the new Chief Imam.

For more than a decade, two factions, led by Alhaji Alfa Anas and the newly appointed Imam, have been at odds over who holds the legitimate position of regional Chief Imam. Friday’s incident adds to a series of violent clashes in recent times.

In response, heavy joint security personnel have been deployed at the mosque and within the Zongo community to restore peace.
