7 shops have been gutted by fire along the Spintex Road

A fire has destroyed seven metal container shops used for commercial purposes along Spintex Road near Marina Mall in the early hours of Saturday, February 7, 2026.

According to a statement shared by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) on its Facebook page, it received a distress call at 12:01 am and promptly dispatched firefighters to the scene.

“Three fire pumps from the Motorway, Tema Metro, and Tema Industrial Area Fire Stations were mobilised in the early hours of Saturday, February 7, 2026, to contain a ferocious fire that gutted metal container shops near Marina Mall,” the statement noted.

The GNFS said through coordinated and tactical operations, firefighters brought the inferno under control and no casualties were recorded.

“The Tema Motorway Fire Engine, led by ADO I Derrick Sarkodie, was dispatched as the base unit. The team arrived at the scene at 12:19 am to find the fire already at an advanced stage and spreading rapidly. Firefighters from Tema Metro and Tema Industrial Area Fire Stations also joined the operation, and through coordinated and tactical firefighting efforts, the fire was brought under control at 1:56 a.m. and fully extinguished by 4:32 a.m. Fortunately, no casualties were reported,” it added.

The GNFS further added, “Firefighters, however, prevented the flames from spreading to the nearby Marina Mall and successfully protected a car garage containing more than 35 vehicles, as well as several adjoining shops and nearby residential buildings.”

Meanwhile, the GNFS said it has commenced investigations to determine the cause of the fire.
