The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Awutu Senya, Eghan Kalala Nyamekye, has confirmed that eight students sustained injuries with three reported to be in critical condition, following a violent incident at the District Schools Athletics Games in Agona Swedru.

Speaking in an interview on Joy FM’s Top Story on Monday, Mr. Nyamekye described the incident as serious and deeply troubling.

According to him, the severity of the injuries overwhelmed local health facilities, necessitating the transfer of the affected students to Accra for further medical examination and specialised care.

“Currently, we have about eight affected students, with three or four in critical condition. The impact was significant,” he stated, describing the situation as “very bad.”

The incident follows the circulation of disturbing videos on social media over the weekend, showing senior high school students in the Central Region physically assaulting one another. The footage has sparked widespread public outrage and reignited national conversations about student discipline, safety, and the responsibilities of schools and families.
