Tension is running high in Gomoa Akotsi in the Central Region after a horrifying overnight attack at a One District One Factory (1D1F) facility claimed the life of a security guard.

Kwabena Boateng, 65, who had been on duty at the De-Bridge Company site, was reportedly killed by a group of thieves attempting to make off with two electrical transformers. The gruesome incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, July 2, 2025.

According to sources close to the scene, the intruders overpowered the elderly guard, tied up his limbs, and suffocated him by placing a plastic bag over his head—effectively cutting off his air supply. The retired watchman, who had previously survived another attack on duty, did not make it out alive this time.

After killing him, the robbers reportedly stole electric cables and fled with the two transformers, believed to belong to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).

Residents of Gomoa Akotsi have been left deeply shaken by the incident, with many raising serious concerns about the safety of employees stationed at industrial sites in the area. The brutality of the attack has ignited calls for tighter security around state-backed industrial initiatives, particularly the 1D1F programme.
