Authorities in Ghana have arrested two men who allegedly posed as officials from the Ghana Gold Board Taskforce in a bold scheme to extort money from unsuspecting gold traders.
The suspects, identified as Foster Delord, 40, and Prince Worvi, 38, were taken into custody by officers from the Western Central Regional Police Command. Both men reportedly presented themselves as former military personnel while making rounds to various gold dealers, pretending to carry out official inspections.
Their operation unraveled after several complaints prompted an investigation. During their arrest, police recovered items believed to have been used in the impersonation—including a handcuff, pepper spray, a stun device, a uniform, and GHC500 in cash.
Following their arrest, the two were arraigned before the Tarkwa Circuit Court and have since been remanded into custody while further inquiries continue.
The regional police are urging the public, particularly those in the gold trade, to verify the identity of anyone claiming to represent a government agency before engaging with them, in order to avoid falling victim to similar schemes.
