Ghanaian Gospel singer, Evangelist Akwesi Nyarko, has shared a heartbreaking video in which he claims to have been neglected by President John Mahama and the National Democratic Congress despite the pivotal role he says he played in their political success.
In the video, Nyarko lamented that during Mahama’s previous run for office, he dedicated himself fully to the campaign, even creating a song to support the former president. He stressed that the gesture came from a place of love and belief, but ultimately cost him dearly.
According to him, his open support for Mahama was misunderstood by others in the Gospel industry and among event organizers, which led to him being blacklisted and treated as a political outcast. Since then, he says, the bookings have stopped, and his career has suffered irreparable damage.
Despite reaching out through various channels, Nyarko claims that all efforts to get the attention of the president or other party executives have failed. Out of frustration and desperation, he chose to make a public appeal.
He revealed that he’s now living in such hardship that he sometimes goes days without food, and shared that at one point he endured three full days without eating.
This plea comes at a time when conversations around how artists are used during elections and then forgotten afterward are gaining more attention online.
