Helicopter Tried Landing Three Times Before Fatal Obuasi Crash, Sources Say

New insights into the devastating helicopter crash in Obuasi on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, have shed light on the chaotic final moments of the ill-fated flight. The tragedy claimed multiple lives and left the nation mourning.

Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi, Chief Executive Officer of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), revealed in an interview with Akoma FM in Kumasi that the helicopter struggled to land safely before the accident.

Passenger Samuel Aboagye reportedly remained in contact with the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Obuasi during the flight. He instructed the MCE to bring a car to the airstrip, but after the helicopter failed to land, he requested that the vehicle be moved to Oforikrom instead.

According to Boadi, the aircraft made two unsuccessful attempts to touch down at the Obuasi airstrip, followed by a failed landing at Oforikrom, before the catastrophic crash occurred.

Boadi also praised the quick action of the Adansi Akrofuom District Chief Executive, Mr. Gariba, whose leadership helped coordinate rescue efforts and recover the victims from the wreckage.

The KMA CEO appealed to the public and media to exercise sensitivity when discussing the incident, urging Ghanaians to respect the grieving families and avoid spreading speculation during this painful period.
