Kwabenya Court Holds Preacher Accused of Abusing His Own Child

How a Manager’s Suspicion Unraveled a Shocking GH¢137K Theft at Samatex

The Kwabenya Circuit Court has ordered that 40-year-old preacher Godwin Asher remain in custody while facing serious accusations of sexual abuse and physical assault involving his 17-year-old daughter.

The case surfaced after a neighbor reported seeing the teenager with a deep cut on her right palm. According to the reports, the girl sustained the injury while trying to defend herself during a physical altercation with her father, who allegedly struck her with a cutlass. Concerned for her well-being, the neighbor escorted the girl to the police, initiating an official investigation.

During the hearing, Asher pleaded not guilty to the charges. His attorney argued that the allegations arose from a disciplinary matter, claiming the girl had stayed away from home without permission. The lawyer stressed that Asher has cared for his daughter since she was young and denied any sexual misconduct, requesting that she be placed under the care of a relative while the case proceeds. Bail was also requested, citing his strong ties to family and community.

The prosecution opposed the bail application, noting that Asher continues to reside in the same household as the victim. The court consequently denied bail and scheduled a follow-up hearing for August 25, 2025.

Police investigations have revealed that the accused allegedly engaged in sexual relations with his daughter, with the most recent incident reportedly occurring on July 30, 2025. The victim underwent medical examination, and her injuries were documented by the authorities.
