How a Contractor Tried to Outsmart Law Enforcement in Narcotics Case

How a Manager’s Suspicion Unraveled a Shocking GH¢137K Theft at Samatex

A building contractor, Prince Kwame Fiatsi, has been remanded by Accra Circuit Court 9 over allegations of exporting drugs without a license and engaging in prohibited narcotics-related business.

Fiatsi, who is also facing charges linked to illegal drug dealings, has not entered a plea as investigations are ongoing. His lawyer’s repeated bail applications were denied due to concerns that he poses a flight risk. The court, presided over by Mr. Samuel Bright Acquah, instructed the prosecution to expedite the investigation.

The prosecution told the court that witnesses in the case are authorised officers from the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) based at its headquarters. Fiatsi, a Ghanaian citizen holding a passport issued on August 12, 2024, valid until 2034, had previously been placed on a travel stop list by the Ghana Immigration Service in March 2025 following the arrest of Uchechukwu Chima on March 18.

Investigations revealed that Fiatsi acted as a courier for Chima. He was scheduled to arrive in Ghana on March 21, 2025, flying from Laos via Bangkok and Dubai on Emirates Airline flight EK 787. NACOC had intended to arrest him upon arrival during immigration checks. However, after learning of Chima’s arrest, Fiatsi altered his route, traveling overland through Côte d’Ivoire and Guinea before re-entering Ghana via Elubo, successfully evading authorities at that time.

On July 10, 2025, while traveling by road through Elubo to Abidjan with plans to fly to India, Fiatsi was identified by GIS officials after their system flagged him. He was immediately arrested, handed over to NACOC at the Elubo Border Command, and later transported to NACOC headquarters for further questioning.

During an interview conducted in the presence of his lawyer, Fiatsi admitted traveling to Laos with a bag provided by an individual identified as “Fred,” which contained narcotics. He referred to the contents merely as “goods.” According to the prosecution, Fred covered all Fiatsi’s travel expenses, including visas, flights, hotels, and additionally provided $2,300 as spending money.

NACOC continues its investigation into the matter.
