Mr Eazi is back — and he’s not holding back. The Grammy-winning afropop star has just dropped “Casanova,” a cheeky yet emotionally raw single that kicks off his upcoming Maison Rouge EP, set to arrive this September via emPawa Africa.
Produced by Ghana’s TMXO and Nigerian hitmaker Kel-P, “Casanova” dives into the messy, magnetic space between loyalty and temptation. It’s a confession — not of guilt, but of complexity. Mr Eazi lays it bare: he’s drawn to women, but his heart belongs to one. The track doesn’t preach or pretend; it simply reflects the real-life contradictions that come with love.
The music video, directed by Ademola Falomo (known for work with Tems, Davido, and Joeboy), turns the song’s theme into a visual story with cinematic flair. Shot in Barcelona, it follows a cab driver who finds himself in hot water after a jealous wife catches him with another woman — without knowing the full story. In just two and a half minutes, the video delivers drama, humor, and a dash of chaos, all wrapped in vibrant cityscapes and intimate close-ups.
“Casanova” was born in Cotonou, Benin, where Mr Eazi recorded the EP at Hotel Maison Rouge — the same creative retreat that birthed his 2023 album-art project, The Evil Genius. That setting seems to have unlocked a new layer of vulnerability and storytelling in his music.
The single follows July’s “Corny,” a mellow love song that showcased Eazi’s softer side, and “Attention,” his contribution to the soundtrack of this summer’s F1 blockbuster. Together, these releases hint at an EP that’s not just sonically rich, but emotionally layered.
Mr Eazi’s journey continues to blur the lines between music, business, and cultural influence. As the founder of emPawa Africa, he’s helped launch careers across the continent, while clocking over 4 billion streams globally. With “Casanova,” he’s proving once again that afropop can be both fun and fearless — and that honesty, even when messy, makes for the best music.
