A violent robbery in Abuakwa-Sepaase has led to the remand of two teenage suspects, following a late-night attack that left one victim hospitalized. The Asante Abuakwa Circuit Court, presided over by Mr. Jephthah Appau, ordered the detention of Albert Mensah, an unemployed resident of Sepaase, and Bismark Yeboah, an excavator apprentice from Adwafo. Both are 18 years old and have pleaded not guilty. They are expected to reappear in court on September 12.
The incident occurred around midnight on August 18, when brothers Alex and Blessing Duah—both tilers and tricycle operators—were negotiating a fare with two women seeking transport to Abuakwa. According to police reports, the suspects approached and demanded the victims’ mobile phones. They then assaulted Blessing, seizing his iPhone 11 Pro Max valued at GHC 2,600 and GHC 800 in cash.
When they attempted to rob Alex, Blessing intervened, prompting Mensah to pull a kitchen knife and stab him in the back. The wound was severe enough to cause Blessing to scream for help, drawing the attention of nearby residents. He was rushed to the Abuakwa Polyclinic and later transferred to Kwadaso SDA Hospital, where he was treated and discharged after two days.
Following a police report, Mensah was arrested at his residence. News of his arrest led Yeboah’s relatives to turn him in voluntarily. Both suspects reportedly admitted to the crime during interrogation and were subsequently charged with robbery and causing harm.
The case has sparked concern among residents, with calls for increased security in the municipality as investigations continue.
