Godwin Asher, who also works as a mason, was admitted to bail in the sum of GH¢60,000 with three sureties. He pleaded not guilty to the charges and is expected to reappear in court on September 23, 2025.

The case stems from a disturbing incident reported on August 2, when a neighbour noticed the teenage girl bleeding from her palm. The girl allegedly sustained the injury while trying to defend herself with a cutlass during a confrontation with her father. She claimed Asher forcefully pulled the weapon from her, causing a deep wound.

Further investigations revealed allegations of sexual abuse, with the last reported incident occurring on July 30. A police medical form was issued, and the victim was examined and treated.

In court, Asher’s lawyer argued that there was no sexual misconduct and that the accused was not a flight risk. He insisted bail was necessary for Asher to prepare his defence and access legal counsel.

The prosecution, led by Inspector Diana Achana, did not oppose the bail but emphasized that the victim had been relocated to a relative’s home in Pokuase for safety.

The case has sparked concern in the Ashongman Estate community, where Asher resides, and raised broader questions about child protection and accountability within family structures.
