Tema NPP Secretary Fired Over GH₵2,000 Land Deal with Wife— Says Dismissal Was Unfair

NPP Secretary Denies Selling Public Land to Wife — TDC Says Plot Was Meant for Toilet Facility
  • Tema Central Constituency Secretary of the NPP, Okwei Ian Tabalor, has contested his dismissal from the Tema Development Company Limited, stating that no official reason was provided.
  • TDC has accused him of facilitating the sale of public land to his wife, a claim he denies.

Okwei Ian Tabalor, the Tema Central Constituency Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has raised concerns over his recent dismissal from the Tema Development Company (TDC) Limited, where he served as a protocol officer.

Tabalor stated that he received his termination letter while on leave and was not given a formal explanation for the decision. He maintains that his recruitment followed standard procedures and that his exit from the company was handled without conflict.

TDC Managing Director, Courage Makafui Nunekpeku, has indicated that Tabalor’s dismissal followed an internal investigation into a land transaction involving a public plot in Tema Community 5. The company alleges that Tabalor facilitated the sale of the land — originally designated for a public toilet facility — to his wife for GH₵2,000.

The plot has since been recovered by TDC as part of its ongoing efforts to reclaim misallocated public lands. Tabalor has denied any involvement in the allocation process, stating that his wife applied independently and followed the required procedures.

The incident comes amid a broader government initiative to audit state land transactions. President John Dramani Mahama recently lifted a freeze on land sales, emphasizing stricter oversight and transparency in future allocations.
