  • Musician and entrepreneur D-Black has addressed rumours about his upbringing, stating that he did not grow up in privilege.
  • He revealed that his father passed away when he was 12, leaving his mother to raise the family alone.
  • He also reiterated his position on reforming key music industry institutions.

Ghanaian rapper and Black Avenue Muzik CEO, D-Black, has responded to claims suggesting he grew up in a wealthy household, stating that his early life was marked by personal loss and financial hardship.

The artist clarified that his father died when he was 12 years old, leaving his mother to take full responsibility for raising the family. He said the experience shaped his outlook and contributed to his drive for success.

The clarification was issued in response to a social media post that labelled him a “dbee,” a term commonly used to describe individuals from affluent backgrounds. D-Black stated that his current status should not be interpreted as evidence of privilege.

In addition to addressing his personal background, D-Black has previously voiced strong opinions on the state of Ghana’s music industry.

In October 2024, he stated that if appointed Tourism Minister, he would dissolve the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), the Ghana Music Rights Organization (GHAMRO), and the Copyright Society of Ghana (COSGA). He argued that the institutions had deviated from their original purpose and required structural reform.
