Three individuals have been sentenced to a combined 20 months in prison for engaging in examination malpractice during the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

The Ofaakor District Magistrate Court in Kasoa handed down the sentences to a teacher and two university students following separate infractions linked to the Social Studies Paper 1. The teacher, identified as Samuel Armah from Ghana College SHS, was found with unauthorized examination materials and received an eight-month sentence along with a fine.

Two Level 100 students, Kwame Oteng Nkansah and Amedeka James, were convicted for impersonating registered candidates during the same paper. Each received a six-month sentence and a financial penalty.

In a related development, the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has shut down the Adventist Day Senior High School examination centre in Kumasi. The decision was made following reports of widespread malpractice and was confirmed during a monitoring visit by local authorities on September 4.

Candidates from the affected centre have been relocated to the WAEC regional office to continue their exams under enhanced supervision. WAEC has reiterated its commitment to maintaining the integrity of the examination process and warned that further breaches will result in additional sanctions.
