Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party and a declared flagbearer hopeful, has issued a firm rebuttal to a viral article falsely claiming he described the Akufo-Addo administration as the worst in Ghana’s history.
The article, published by Opera News and widely circulated online, alleged that Agyepong made the remarks during a recent interview on Asempa FM. But according to Agyepong, his last appearance on the station was on July 29—immediately after announcing his flagbearer bid—and at no point did he make such a statement.
In a media release dated September 7, Agyepong condemned the report as a deliberate attempt to tarnish his image and destabilize the party’s internal unity. He described the publication as the third instance of fabricated content targeting him from the same outlet.
Agyepong emphasized that his campaign is rooted in integrity, truth, and service, and that he remains committed to respectful public discourse. He urged the public to disregard the false report and called on media regulators to hold digital platforms accountable for spreading misinformation under the guise of journalism.
The incident adds another layer of tension to the NPP’s flagbearer contest, where issues of loyalty, credibility, and media manipulation are beginning to shape the narrative. As Agyepong continues to push for renewal within the party, he’s made it clear that he won’t allow fake news to derail his mission.
