Police Storm Moses Abor’s Home—Search for Abronye DC
  • Masked and armed police officers reportedly stormed the residence of former NPP Greater Accra Regional Youth Organizer Moses Abor on September 7, allegedly searching for Bono Regional Chairman Kwame Baffoe Abronye.
  • The raid comes just days after Abronye filed for political asylum, citing threats and persecution under the current administration.

Political tensions in Ghana have taken a dramatic turn following a reported raid on the residence of Moses Abor, a former youth organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). On Sunday, September 7, masked and armed police officers were seen entering a home believed to be Abor’s in Accra, allegedly in search of Bono Regional Chairman Kwame Baffoe Abronye.

The timing of the raid has raised eyebrows. Just two days earlier, Abronye submitted a formal request for political asylum to multiple embassies and international bodies, including the UNHCR and the UN Resident Coordinator’s Office in Ghana. In his appeal, he cited a pattern of intimidation, unlawful detention, and threats to his life by individuals he claims are linked to state security agencies.

According to Abronye, he was the first opposition figure detained by the National Investigations Bureau (NIB) after criticizing the government’s mass dismissal of public sector workers. He also recounted receiving threatening calls from individuals claiming to act on behalf of the Inspector General of Police, warning that he would be “dealt with mercilessly” if he continued speaking out.

The raid on Abor’s home has fueled speculation that Abronye may be in hiding, possibly sheltered by party allies. Abor has reportedly denied harboring the NPP chairman, stating that the officers searched his entire property—including adjacent buildings—before leaving without explanation.

So far, neither the Ghana Police Service nor the NPP has issued a formal statement regarding the incident. The silence has only deepened public concern over the use of state security in politically charged operations.

As Abronye’s asylum plea circulates among international agencies, and questions mount over the legality and motive behind the raid, Ghana’s political climate appears increasingly volatile. Whether this marks the beginning of a broader crackdown or an isolated incident remains to be seen.
