Speaking during his campaign tour of the Ashanti Region, Dr. Bawumia said the initiative is designed to stimulate entrepreneurship, attract investment, and drive job creation nationwide. Currently, Ghana operates only one duty-free zone, located at the Tema Port.

Under his proposed model, cities like Kumasi, Takoradi, and others would be transformed into duty-free hubs, allowing businesses to benefit from reduced import costs and expanded trade opportunities. He believes the move would unlock growth in local industries and create thousands of jobs.

The proposal forms a key pillar of his campaign to lead the NPP into the 2028 general elections, with a focus on inclusive development and economic reform.
