Nana Konadu Yiadom III, who passed away on August 7, 2025, was not only the 14th Asantehemaa but also the biological sister of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II. Her reign began in 2017, following the passing of her mother, Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II, and was marked by a deep commitment to preserving Asante traditions and guiding the royal court with wisdom and grace.

The four-day funeral rites, known in Asante tradition as “Dote Yie,” began on Monday, September 15, and culminated in her burial on Thursday evening. The ceremonies drew thousands to Kumasi, including royals, dignitaries, and citizens from across Ghana and beyond.

Mahama’s arrival at the palace was symbolic—not just of political presence, but of national respect for a woman whose influence extended far beyond the Ashanti Kingdom. His interaction with the Asantehene and participation in the rites underscored the cultural weight of the occasion.

Throughout the funeral period, Kumasi observed a citywide shutdown, with shops, schools, and banks closed in honour of the queen mother. Traditional drumming, sacred rituals, and symbolic displays of heritage filled the palace grounds, offering a final tribute to a matriarch whose legacy will endure in the annals of Asanteman history.
