A violent assault on a sub-chief in Darkuman has led to the arrest and remand of nine individuals, with police intensifying efforts to track down four others believed to be involved. The suspects, who allegedly attacked Mutala Yayaa with a cutlass, axe, and scissors, appeared before the Adabraka District Court on Friday but were not asked to enter pleas.
The incident occurred on September 10, 2025, around 4:30 p.m., when Yayaa and his errand boys visited the Cable and Wireless area of Darkuman to greet locals. Upon reaching a spot known as Bolga, the group was confronted by the accused, who questioned the sub-chief’s presence and authority in the area.
When Yayaa refused to comply with demands to sit down, the confrontation escalated into a brutal attack. The accused allegedly inflicted deep cuts to his head and body using sharp weapons, including a pair of scissors. The victim was later issued a medical form and received treatment before reporting back to police.
The suspects—ranging in age from 21 to 31—include unemployed youth, mechanic apprentices, drivers, and artisans from Abossey Okai, Darkuman, and Bubuashie. They were charged with conspiracy to commit crime and causing harm with offensive weapons.
Chief Inspector Apeweh Achana, leading the prosecution, told the court that investigations are ongoing and that police are actively pursuing four unnamed accomplices who remain at large. The case has since been transferred to the Regional CID in Accra for deeper investigation.
The court, presided over by Mrs Abena Owusu Omenyo, remanded the accused into custody and adjourned the case, pending further developments.
