The forecourt of the State House in Accra became a solemn sanctuary on Saturday as Ghana bid farewell to one of its cherished musical sons, Dada Kweku Duah—known to many simply as Dada KD. The highlife legend, whose smooth vocals and heartfelt lyrics defined an era, was laid to rest in a ceremony marked by reverence, reflection, and rhythm.
Among the dignitaries present was Rex Omar, fellow highlife musician and Presidential Staffer for the Black Stars Experience. Dressed in all-black, Omar filed past the white casket, which was beautifully adorned with green and white flowers—a visual tribute to the purity and vibrancy of Dada KD’s legacy.
Also in attendance were representatives from the Ghana Music Rights Organisation (GHAMRO), as well as fans of the Lumba Brothers group, with whom Dada KD shared musical lineage and stage history. Their presence underscored the deep respect and admiration held for the late artiste across generations.
The government, acknowledging Dada KD’s role in projecting Ghanaian music onto the international stage, is assisting with funeral arrangements in partnership with the family. It’s a gesture that reflects the nation’s gratitude for a voice that carried its stories far beyond its borders.
Mourners were clad in black and white, a symbolic blend of grief and celebration. The turnout was large, emotional, and unified—proof of the impact Dada KD had not just as a performer, but as a cultural figure.
His death on May 17, 2025, after a short illness, came as a shock to many, especially as he was preparing to perform in London alongside Obrafour, Slim Buster, and Kojo Blakk. That stage will now remain empty, but his music continues to echo in the hearts of fans.
