- His concerns echo the wider struggles of many Ghanaian veteran artistes in the creative industry.
Blakk Rasta, known in private life as Abubakar Ahmed, has revealed that his long music journey has not given him the financial breakthrough he once dreamed of.
The reggae artiste, who has graced international stages and performed for world leaders, shared his frustrations during a church service in Uganda led by Prophet Samuel Kakande. He disclosed that despite years of hard work and recognition, he continues to face both financial and health challenges.
Reflecting on his career highlights, Blakk Rasta recalled performing for former U.S. President Barack Obama when he visited Ghana, a moment inspired by a song he specially composed. He also mentioned being invited by the late Robert Mugabe to perform at his 92nd birthday celebration — milestones that positioned him among global music icons.
However, he admitted that such career achievements have not translated into financial stability. “I know I do very good music; I have about 13 albums to my name but it doesn’t give me the money that I expect,” he confessed during the gathering.
His revelation adds to the growing concerns within Ghana’s creative industry, where many veteran artistes continue to struggle financially despite their immense contributions to music and culture.
