The Greater Accra Regional Police Command has arrested a 45-year-old man accused of impersonating a military officer to defraud unsuspecting traders and business owners at Abossey Okai.
Police say the suspect, whose identity has not yet been disclosed, had been operating in the area for months, parading in full military attire while intimidating hawkers and extorting money.
According to the police, his arrest followed weeks of surveillance after intelligence from informants pointed to his suspicious behaviour. Officers confirmed his fraudulent activities and eventually swooped in to apprehend him while in action.
Superintendent Juliana Obeng, spokesperson for the Command, explained that the suspect had become a menace to the community, using fear to exploit hardworking traders. She added that the police are determined to clamp down on such criminal schemes and warned that offenders would face the full force of the law.
The suspect is currently in custody while further investigations continue.
