The Member of Parliament for Bosome-Freho, Nana Asafo Adjei-Ayeh, was unexpectedly prevented from joining Ghana’s parliamentary delegation to the 80th UN General Assembly in New York, despite having been nominated by the Minority.
Asafo Adjei-Ayeh explained that the Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, intervened to remove him from the delegation.

This came after previous disagreements and outspoken criticisms directed at the minister. The Ranking Member of Parliament’s Select Committee on Foreign Affairs, Samuel Abu Jinapor, had initially designated Asafo Adjei-Ayeh to represent him due to scheduling conflicts.
All arrangements, including the flight ticket and per diem, had been completed, and Asafo Adjei-Ayeh was ready to travel. He had informed both his constituents and family members about the trip. However, upon arrival at the airport with fellow MP Alfred Oko Vanderpuije and the Clerk of Parliament, he was informed that his ticket had been withdrawn.
While Vanderpuije and the clerk were allowed to proceed, the MP was forced to return his documents and abandon the trip. He attributed the action to ongoing tensions and disagreements within committee meetings, suggesting that his critical stance on the minister’s leadership played a key role in the decision.
