Fifteen Members of Parliament from Ghana’s Eastern Region have issued a sharp rebuttal against their colleague, Bryan Acheampong, following his recent comments about their support for Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the NPP flagbearer race.
In a statement released on September 30, 2025, the MPs accused the Abetifi legislator of spreading “false, dishonest, and intentionally divisive” claims aimed at undermining their endorsement of Dr. Bawumia.
Acheampong had alleged that some MPs secretly contacted him to apologize after publicly backing Bawumia, and that he exchanged text messages with the Vice President over the matter. The MPs firmly denied these assertions.
“We challenge him to publicly name the MPs he claims reached out. Until then, his allegations remain fabricated,” they declared.

The MPs also addressed accusations surrounding campaign financing during the 2024 elections. While Acheampong portrayed himself as the primary financier of Bawumia’s Eastern Region campaign, the MPs clarified that funds came from party backers and businessmen, with Acheampong acting solely as a coordinator.
They added that shortfalls in the expected funds forced some MPs to contribute personal resources to sustain the campaign.
Further, the MPs condemned Acheampong for allegedly misleading polling station executives by claiming that funds meant for them were diverted by constituency executives and MPs.
They are now calling on the central campaign team—including the campaign manager and finance chairman—to clarify how much money was given to Acheampong and for what purpose.
Reaffirming their commitment, the MPs stated, “We remain firm, united, and unwavering in our support for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. Bryan Acheampong’s allegations are clearly aimed at serving his personal agenda. We urge him to retract these false claims immediately.”
The statement was endorsed by prominent MPs such as Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, Sammi Awuku, Michael Okyere Baafi, Frank Annoh Dompreh, Kofi Ahenkorah Marfo, Kingsley Agyemang, alongside nine others from the region.
