A total of 534,672 students have now been successfully placed into Ghana’s second cycle institutions under the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS), with 52,492 completing self-placement this year.

The placement process, which started on September 17, 2025, initially assigned 483,800 candidates to senior high schools (SHSs), technical schools, and vocational institutes.

To address concerns from students and parents regarding placement outcomes, the Ghana Education Service (GES) established regional resolution centres.

As of the last Friday, these centres had recorded 9,000 complaints, with the Greater Accra centre receiving the highest volume of 4,000 cases.

Most requests focus on transfers to more prestigious Category ‘A’ schools, although space limitations have prevented many of these changes.

GES officials clarified that changes in placement are only allowed for valid reasons such as health issues, relocation, or distance. Similarly, adjustments from day to boarding status are permitted only in these circumstances.

Other common concerns involve self-placement errors and candidates who did not receive placements, which are being resolved through ongoing self-placement options and private school opportunities.

Re-entry candidates, referring to students from previous BECE years who missed initial placements, are also being accommodated. GES has pledged to resolve placement issues before the official school reporting date of October 18, 2025.

Parents have been urged to avoid paying money for changes, warning that any solicitation for cash should be reported.

This year’s placement programme includes 724 public SHSs and technical schools, 233 technical and vocational institutes, and a pilot of 70 private SHSs under the Free SHS initiative.
