The Blue Water Guards conducted a significant operation against illegal mining in the Wassa Amenfi East district of the Western Region, dismantling equipment and apprehending suspects on Tuesday, September 30, 2025.
The raid focused on areas between Asikuma and Mensahkrom, including the Eshire River at Wassa Akropong, targeting miners whose activities had caused severe damage to roads and waterways.
During the operation, officers discovered miners operating directly on deteriorated roads, further compounding the infrastructure damage.
The team destroyed 30 Changfan engines, 18 pumping machines, 19 shovels, five hammers, over 100 “outers,” two diggers, a pipeline, 50 washing boards, and more than 50 washing blankets.
Five temporary shelters were also burned, one gallon of diesel seized, and a tricycle locally called “aboboyaa” impounded.
Three individuals suspected of participating in the illegal activities were arrested and transferred to the Wassa Akropong Police Command for further investigation.
Following the raid, the task force collaborated with local authorities, including the community chairman and the chief, who contributed two excavators and four culverts to repair damaged road sections.
The chief additionally committed two truckloads of gravel to support ongoing restoration, with further monitoring scheduled to continue.
