A devastating fire tore through China City Mall at Santasi in Kumasi on Thursday, October 30, 2025, leaving the building and the goods inside in ruins.
Eyewitnesses reported that the blaze originated at the rear of the mall before rapidly spreading, consuming shops selling groceries, electronics, and household items. Thick smoke from the fire was visible from afar, signaling the intensity of the inferno.
Firefighters from the Ghana National Fire Service rushed to the scene, battling to contain the flames. Despite their efforts, the mall, which had become a popular shopping destination since opening earlier this year, was completely destroyed.
Traders recounted the chaos, noting that the fire moved so quickly that many were unable to salvage their merchandise, resulting in significant losses.
The Ghana National Fire Service has launched an investigation to determine the cause of the fire and assess the full scale of the damage. Authorities have not yet provided an estimate of the losses suffered by the affected traders.
