President John Dramani Mahama has named Professor Edward Brenya as the new Chairman of the Governing Council of Kumasi Technical University (KsTU), a move seen as a major boost for technical education in the Ashanti Region.
Professor Brenya, a distinguished scholar and policy analyst from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), is widely regarded as a product of the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Education Fund, which supported his Master’s and PhD studies in the United States through a prestigious scholarship from Ohio University.
An Associate Professor in the Department of History and Political Studies at KNUST, Brenya also coordinates the Master of Public Administration (MPA) programme at the Institute of Distance Learning and has previously served as Administrative Manager of the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Education Fund, giving him valuable experience in governance and resource mobilization.
In his new role at KsTU, Professor Brenya is expected to guide the university through an ambitious transformation agenda, focusing on:
- Governance Reform – Enhancing accountability and institutional efficiency.
- Research Commercialization – Turning academic findings into economic opportunities.
- Academic-Industry Collaboration – Strengthening partnerships to ensure graduates are job-ready.
- Research Productivity – Improving the quantity and quality of scholarly work.
Professor Brenya has expressed a strong commitment to elevating KsTU as a leading centre for technical and professional education across Ghana and the sub-region. His appointment is seen as recognition of his academic expertise and dedication to public service, as well as a testament to the long-term impact of the Otumfuo Education Fund in producing leaders capable of driving institutional growth.
He will begin his duties immediately, working closely with KsTU’s management and stakeholders to implement the university’s roadmap for development.
