Rockson Kwame Tawiah, the Headmaster of Kpassa Senior High Technical School (KPASTECH), has been removed from his position following the unauthorised collection of fees from students. The decision was confirmed by the Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, on November 6, 2025.

A committee set up by the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES) found that Tawiah imposed a GH¢150 levy on each of the school’s 2,900 students without approval from the Board of Governors or the Parent-Teacher Association. The total amount collected from the students reached GH¢435,000.

The headmaster reportedly threatened students who sat for the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) with blocked results if they did not pay the fee. Receipts for the payments bore the school accountant’s stamp, although the transactions were unauthorised.

Following the findings, Tawiah has been reassigned to the Oti Regional Directorate and may face additional sanctions. The action reinforces the commitment of the GES to uphold proper procedures and accountability in schools.
