A disturbing video showing Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) officers forcibly removing deportees from a hotel in Ogbojo, Accra, has gone viral, sparking widespread debate across social media platforms.
The incident, which occurred on November 11, 2025, reportedly involved a group of West African nationals recently deported from the United States. In the footage, GIS officials were seen dragging a woman along the floor as they attempted to move the group from the VICSEM Hotel into a waiting vehicle.
Eyewitnesses say the confrontation began when immigration officers arrived to transfer the deportees to a different location under an ongoing repatriation arrangement between Ghana and the United States. The situation quickly escalated into a heated standoff, with some returnees resisting the relocation order.
Though the exact circumstances leading to the use of force remain unclear, the footage has triggered mixed reactions online, with many questioning the handling of the operation.
This incident follows a recent Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the governments of Ghana and the United States, allowing deported West African nationals to be received and processed in Ghana.
The Ghana Immigration Service has yet to issue a formal statement regarding the viral video or the conduct of the officers involved.
