Nana Kwabena Gyamera Oyiakwan II, Chief of Adansi Kwapia and elder brother of the late Samuel Aboagye, a former Deputy Director of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), has revealed that his brother had long questioned the paternity of a three-year-old child believed to be his.
Speaking to the media after court proceedings on November 11, 2025, Nana Oyiakwan explained that following the tragic helicopter crash on August 6, which claimed Samuel Aboagye’s life along with seven others, family members were required to undergo DNA testing to identify the bodies. According to him, Samuel’s wife, who resides in the United States, initially agreed to bring the child for the test but failed to do so.
He stated that the DNA identification process eventually involved samples from himself, their mother, and another child fathered by Samuel. Nana Oyiakwan added that the family’s concerns deepened when the widow continued to resist a DNA test after the funeral, despite her late husband’s previous doubts about the child’s paternity — something he claimed their mother was aware of.
The matter has since escalated to the Obuasi District Court, where the family has filed a case seeking an order to compel Mrs. Abigail Aboagye to submit the child for DNA testing. Her legal team has, however, filed a motion asking the court to dismiss the request.
The case has been adjourned to December 23, 2025, for further hearing.
