The Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board, Richard Nunekpeku, has reiterated the agency’s firm commitment to enforcing the law without political interference as it intensifies its campaign against illegal gold trading and smuggling.

His comments follow the recent arrest of 25 individuals in Accra for engaging in unlicensed gold transactions, part of a broader national operation to sanitize the precious minerals sector.

Nunekpeku stressed that the Gold Board will apply the law impartially, regardless of the political connections or influence of those apprehended. He noted that anyone found engaging in unlawful gold activities will face due process, with full respect for their legal rights and the opportunity to secure legal representation.

He also revealed that since the Board’s establishment, no political figure or authority has attempted to interfere in its operations — a sign, he said, that the agency’s message of independence has been well understood across government and political circles.

According to him, the Board is determined to collaborate closely with security agencies to ensure successful prosecution of offenders and to strengthen the fight against gold-related crimes that undermine the nation’s economic integrity.

Nunekpeku reaffirmed that the Ghana Gold Board remains committed to transparency, professionalism, and fairness in carrying out its mandate to regulate, monitor, and promote responsible gold trade in Ghana.
