A dramatic dawn operation by the NAIMOS Taskforce sent illegal miners running for cover at the well-known “Yellow Face” galamsey zone at Wassa Abrehyia in the Western Region. The unannounced raid caught miners off guard, prompting many to bolt into the surrounding bushes, a moment that quickly spread online after being captured on video.
When officers moved through the camp, they came across temporary shelters, tools linked to the mining activity, and various items suspected to be associated with drug use. Sticks of dynamite believed to support the illicit operation were also found. Everything seized at the scene was destroyed immediately as part of the taskforce’s enforcement routine.
The operation adds to a series of intensified actions by NAIMOS aimed at flushing out illegal mining pockets across the region. Officials say more coordinated raids are already planned, with the focus on dismantling camps that continue to endanger rivers, farmland, and the safety of nearby communities.
