A businesswoman identified as Millicent Asamoah Ampofo, aged 45, has appeared before an Accra Circuit Court over allegations that she was producing and distributing beverages and sweets suspected to contain cannabis at Taifa.
The case was heard by Mr. Kwabena Kodua Obiri-Yeboah, who is overseeing the charge of unlawful control of a narcotic drug. Her plea was not taken because investigators are awaiting laboratory results from the Police Forensic Science Laboratory, where all seized samples have been sent for testing.
She was granted bail valued at GH¢50,000, backed by a single surety. The court requested strict compliance measures to ensure she returns for trial, even though prosecutors did not contest her request for bail. They were instructed to submit all necessary disclosures to move the matter forward.
Background of the Arrest
Police officers from the Criminal Investigations Department carried out an intelligence-led operation on November 5, 2025, targeting Millicent’s drinking spot. Their search uncovered a wide assortment of items believed to be infused with cannabis.
Among the items retrieved were 47 bottles of sobolo, 20 bottles of mango drink, and 23 containers filled with various liquids. Officers also seized a blue mini drum holding a larger quantity of liquid, two plastic containers of dried plant material, two rubber bags containing powder, and 180 pieces of brown toffees. All items are suspected to contain cannabis in one form or another.
During questioning, Millicent is said to have acknowledged ownership of the products and indicated that she sources her raw materials from a man known as Richard, who is believed to be based in Accra. She further explained that she personally prepares the drinks and toffees, selling the sobolo for GH¢5, mango drink for GH¢20, and each toffee for GH¢5.
Investigators are currently working to track down the said supplier as part of the ongoing case.
