Authorities have confirmed the capture of 21-year-old Azumah Sampson, suspected of stabbing a firefighter during a fire incident in Adjiringanor on November 14, 2025.

The Ghana National Fire Service, working alongside local volunteers from the White Chapel Youth Group in Madina, successfully tracked down and apprehended the suspect. He is now in police custody assisting with ongoing investigations.

The stabbing occurred while firefighters from Legon, Madina, Adenta, and the National Headquarters were responding to a late-night blaze that destroyed seven rooms in a two-storey building near Ability Square. During the operation, one firefighter suffered a stab wound to the arm, and another was injured by a falling block. Both received treatment at Unity Clinic and have since been discharged.

The Fire Service had previously appealed to the public for information on the attacker, even offering a reward to help locate him. Authorities commended the community’s swift support, particularly the White Chapel Youth Group, for providing critical information leading to the arrest.

The GNFS encouraged continued cooperation between residents and firefighters, highlighting that community engagement is key to safety and ensuring those responsible for violence are held accountable.
