A private legal practitioner, Lawyer Quayson, has urged Professor Ransford Gyampo to abandon his plan to pursue legal action against fellow University of Ghana lecturer, Dr George Domfeh, following their explosive confrontation on TV3. Speaking on Okay FM on November 17, 2025, the lawyer advised that the matter should be resolved quietly rather than escalated through the courts.

His caution was based on concerns that reopening the dispute in a legal arena could trigger renewed public attention to the sexual harassment allegations raised against Prof Gyampo years ago in the BBC’s Sex for Grades documentary. According to the lawyer, resurfacing those accusations could seriously damage the professor’s reputation and potentially threaten his professional standing. He indicated that fresh claims had already begun emerging barely a day after Gyampo announced his intention to take legal action, raising fears that additional individuals might come forward if the issue continues in the public domain.

He explained that lawsuits sometimes inflame situations rather than resolve them, noting that clients often face the fallout when past allegations re-emerge. For that reason, he encouraged a measured approach, suggesting that the disagreement between the two lecturers should be handled privately instead of in court.

Quayson referenced the late musician Daddy Lumba as an example of how matters can spiral when pushed into litigation, emphasising that heightened publicity often comes not from the initial dispute but from lawyers’ responses and filings. He believed the current controversy could follow a similar path if not managed more discreetly.

The entire situation stems from the recent fight between Prof Gyampo—who also serves as Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Shippers Authority—and Dr George Domfeh. After the altercation on TV3’s The Key Points programme, Gyampo’s legal team demanded an apology and retraction, accusing Domfeh of making defamatory allegations, including claims of inappropriate conduct involving under-age girls.

The public backlash intensified after footage from the television studio spread online on November 15, 2025. Viewers saw both academics hurling personal attacks on live TV, with their exchange escalating far beyond the original subject of discussion. Additional videos later showed the confrontation nearly turning physical, with further unverified allegations being made during the outburst.

The clash between the two lecturers has since triggered widespread criticism, with many calling for disciplinary measures and urging both parties to exercise restraint. Lawyer Quayson, however, maintains that pushing the matter to court could trigger an even bigger storm for Prof Gyampo, given the sensitivity of past accusations and the likelihood of renewed scrutiny.
