Frank Amoakohene, the Ashanti Regional Minister, is pushing back sharply after being accused of engaging in illegal mining. The allegation surfaced during a discussion on Aluta FM (92.1 MHz) on Tuesday, 18 November 2025, where Wendell Yeboah, who heads mobilisation at Democracy Hub, claimed that the Minister was involved in galamsey activities.
Amoakohene responded the following day with a firm denial, describing the allegation as a deliberate attempt to damage his public image. He insisted that he has never taken part in such activities and urged the public to disregard the claim entirely.
His lawyers have already initiated formal steps to confront both Yeboah and the radio station. They are demanding evidence to support the accusation, along with a withdrawal of the statement and a public apology. According to the Minister, the failure to honour these demands will trigger immediate legal action.
Despite the controversy, Amoakohene reaffirmed his commitment to supporting national efforts aimed at eliminating illegal mining in the Ashanti Region and across the country. He emphasised that his work continues to be guided by integrity and the responsibility of serving the public interest.
